Typical weather
January is deep winter. Expect cold, and plan for wind and wet; conditions can swing hard on the day.
Who it favors
Gravel rewards durable all-rounders. You need the aerobic engine to ride for hours, the punch for steep pitches, and the discipline to pace your own effort and fuel when there is no group to hide in.
